AGLOW

Auckland Palace’s dazzling light trail will illuminate the skies of Bishop Auckland this Christmas.

AGLOW promises to be one of the most spectacular Christmas light trails in the North East. With incredible illuminations and some of the largest light installations in the country, AGLOW is a must-see experience for all the family.

Sensory-friendly sessions: Thursday 27th November, Thursday 4th December and Thursday 11th December at 4:30pm and 5:00pm

Accessibility

The main trail's terrain can be challenging for individuals with mobility issues, including wheelchair users and those using mobility scooters, especially in wet or icy conditions. While visitors with mobility concerns can purchase a main trail ticket, it's recommended to check the terrain details in advance but please note that the trail comprises 1.5 miles of uneven ground and difficult terrain.

Stewards will be available to offer guidance at crucial points along the trail, but ultimately, the choice of route rests with the visitor.

The topography of the site and the uneven terrain makes it very difficult to be fully accessible. However, we have introduced a significantly shorter trail for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues with a reduced ticket price of £5.

Accessible Route

The Accessible Route is a significantly shorter segment of the complete AGLOW trail, showcasing six stunning installations. It has been designed to maximise accessibility within the beautiful Auckland Palace Gardens. Please note that the entire route is outdoors and not sheltered.

The accessible route is primarily made up of hoggin path, though some areas may feature cobbles which could pose challenges to wheelchair users.

While efforts have been made to eliminate known trip hazards, it is important to remember that the trail is set within the Auckland Gardens, so you may encounter stones, leaves, twigs, and other natural debris along the way.

Certain sections of the trail will have cabling crossing over, but rest assured, these will be covered with cable ramp covers for safety.

Accessible toilets are available.

The Accessible Route does not include the section of the trail in the Deer Park, including Santa’s Village.

Accessible tickets are prioritised for wheelchair users and visitors with reduced mobility.

We understand that everyone’s needs are different, and we are happy to provide as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision about which ticket option is right for you. If you would like to discuss your requirements with a member of our team, please email [email protected].
